Is Mistfall Hunter Region Locked?

Last updated: August 2026 — verified against the official FAQ, the Steam store page, and community reports from the launch window.

Quick answer — yes, Mistfall Hunter is region locked. Your Steam store country decides which build you download, and your build decides which servers you can play on — so an EU friend on the Global build cannot join your NA server (see the servers guide for which regions each build reaches). Accounts registered in the US, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands receive the North American build and can only access North American servers. Everyone else gets a global build that reaches the Germany, Singapore, and Brazil servers (the mainland China version is separate). A VPN does not unlock servers, character progress does not carry between regions, and there is no official in-game way to switch regions yet.

Mistfall Hunter enforces server access based on regional client builds. In the game’s official FAQ, Bellring Games confirms that store accounts registered in North American territories download a North American build that can only access North American servers, and that battlefield servers are deployed in five countries. For many players — especially those with friends in other regions — this has been the most complained-about issue since launch.

Server Regions at a Glance

Five official server locations are named in the launch FAQ, and the official Mistfall Hunter site repeats the statement in its news section. Which one you can reach depends on your build.

There is no dedicated Oceania or Middle East server, and Bellring has not listed a US East / US West split in the official FAQ. For ping, server selection, and character-creation guidance, see the servers guide.

The Official Rules

Two statements from the official FAQ (published via Steam Community and repeated by coverage sites) define how region locking works:

  • Five regional servers. “We are currently deploying server locations across 5 countries: China, the United States, Germany, Singapore, and Brazil.”
  • The North American build is locked. “Due to compliance requirements, store accounts registered in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands will download the North American build by default and will only be able to access the North American servers (located in the US).”

In practice, as the guide site GamerFuzion summarizes, a player on the North American build cannot queue onto the European, Singapore, or Brazil servers, and cannot join a friend who is locked to a different build. This is a store-account restriction: which build you download is tied to your Steam store region and wallet currency, not to your physical location.

NA Build vs Global Build

Mistfall Hunter ships as at least two distinct clients, and which one Steam hands you is decided by your account’s registered store country — not your IP address:

North American (NA) buildGlobal build
Who gets itStore accounts registered in the US, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin IslandsAny store account outside those territories
Servers it can reachNorth American servers only (located in the US)Germany, Singapore, Brazil (plus the separate mainland China version)
NA server nodesAvailable in the server listHidden or blocked — the NA node does not appear, even with a low ping

Per the LagoFast guide, the client checks your regional entitlement at download time: “If your account is not flagged for the North American ecosystem, the client simply hides or blocks access to NA server nodes entirely.” That is why a player in Europe or Asia never sees the NA server listed, and why a US-based player with a foreign store account is forced onto a distant region.

How to Check Your Steam Store Region

Your Steam store country — not where you live — decides which Mistfall Hunter build you receive. To verify which one you are flagged for:

  1. Open the Steam desktop client and sign in.
  2. Click your profile name in the top-right corner of the window.
  3. Select Account details from the drop-down menu.
  4. On the Account Details page, look under the Country / Region heading — a country plus wallet currency is listed (for example, United States - USD or Germany - EUR).
  5. If the country is a North American territory, your account qualifies for the NA build. If it is anything else, you are on the Global build and the NA server will not appear for you in-game.

Steam links the store region to your payment methods, so a recent move to North America does not change your build until your billing details do.

What Players Report

Region lock has produced heavy community pushback since the Open Beta:

  • US–Sweden party blocked. A r/MistfallHunter thread titled “Any workaround for playing with international friends” describes a US player unable to invite a friend in Sweden — neither via Xbox invites nor via the in-game friend search. Commenters report similar problems playing with US friends from South America, where the game forces them onto the Brazil server.
  • Steam discussions. Multiple threads — “Region lock please remove?”, “REGION LOCK”, “Why NA servers are still region locked? THIS IS NOT FAIR”, and “Unlock NA SERVER!!!” — collect complaints from players stuck on servers far from their friends or with poor ping.

Some commenters defend the restriction as reducing cross-region ping abuse and cheating, but the dominant theme in these threads is frustration from players who cannot play with friends across regions.

Troubleshooting: NA Server Not Showing or Wrong Region Assigned

If the NA server is missing from your list, or you are being forced onto a distant region, work through this checklist:

  1. Confirm your Steam store country (steps above). If it is not a North American territory, the Global build hiding the NA node is working as designed — this is not a connection fault.
  2. Check the server list against your build. A non-NA account will not see the NA server even with a low ping to the US. Low ping alone does not unlock nodes.
  3. Rule out maintenance. During updates or patches a regional cluster can be temporarily offline, which can hide the option. Check the official Discord announcements before assuming a lock.
  4. Verify the installed client. If your store region recently changed to NA, you may still have the Global build cached. In Steam, right-click Mistfall Hunter → Properties → Installed Files → Verify integrity of game files; a full reinstall after confirming your NA store status forces Steam to pull the correct build.
  5. Contact support. If you believe your account was mis-assigned, open a support ticket on the official Discord — developer representatives have said they will help affected players one-on-one. Include a screenshot of your Steam Account Details and your physical ISP location so they can compare the two.

Can You Change Regions or Use a VPN?

The short answer: neither is a reliable fix, because the restriction is an account-entitlement issue rather than an IP-routing one.

VPNs do not unlock servers. A standard VPN changes your connection route but not your Steam billing country, so Steam still serves you the same Global client. As the LagoFast guide puts it: “Steam still reads your backend billing history and serves you the exact same Global client build.” VPNs also carry an extra risk here — the Steam store page lists the game as using kernel-level Bellring Anti-Cheat on PC, and third-party software that intercepts network traffic can trip anti-cheat heuristics.

Changing your Steam store country is constrained. Steam only lets you change your store country while physically present in the new country and after completing a purchase with a local payment method, and it enforces a cooldown between changes (around 3 months, per the LagoFast guide). Attempting to fake a billing address violates the Steam Subscriber Agreement and can lead to a permanent account ban. Even a legitimate change does not retroactively re-flag a build you already own.

The bottom line: if cross-region play matters to you, the safest advice is to confirm everyone in your group can access the same server region before committing time to a character.

Community Workarounds

Community-reported workarounds exist, but they are unverified and often contested:

  • A r/MistfallHunter post titled “How to bypass region lock” describes steps to reach NA servers from the international build — including purchasing the “Mistfall Hunter (Not for US, CA, MX)” version, which one commenter confirms let them into NA servers, chat, and expeditions. The same commenter warns that character data does not carry over between build branches, and other commenters report the method failing.
  • Game booster guides (such as LagoFast’s) point out that a plain VPN usually does not work, because the restriction is an account-entitlement issue rather than an IP-routing one, as described above.

None of these methods are endorsed by the developers, and they can change or break at any time.

Developer Response

In Steam discussion threads about the region lock, a Mistfall Hunter representative (posting as Priscilla) has apologized and said the team “will try to find alternative solutions,” directing affected players to open a support ticket on the official Discord server for one-on-one help. Guide sites covering the launch corroborate that the developers have acknowledged the problem and are working on an alternative solution, though region unlocking is not available yet. In an earlier “Unlock NA SERVER!!!” thread, another developer response framed the NA lock during the beta as temporary, saying the team would announce well in advance if the lock would persist after launch. As of launch (July 2026), the NA-build restriction remains in effect.

Crossplay vs Cross-Region vs Cross-Progression

These three terms get mixed up constantly, and each answers a different question:

ConceptWhat it meansDoes it let NA + EU players party up?
CrossplayPC, PS5, and Xbox players share the same matchmaking poolsNo — cross-platform is not cross-region
Cross-regionPlayers assigned to different server groups playing togetherThis is what the region lock blocks
Cross-progressionThe same account’s progress shared across platforms or serversSeparate feature — and character data does not transfer between server groups anyway

Mistfall Hunter supports cross-platform matchmaking, so a PC player can squad up with PS5 and Xbox friends — but only if everyone is on the same regional build. The game also uses its own friend network (Player IDs separate from Steam or Xbox friends lists). Per the LagoFast guide and player reports, character progress is tied to the server group where the character was created; switching regions or builds means starting over.

See the crossplay guide for platform mixing, the multiplayer guide for party setup, and the servers guide for server selection and ping.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Mistfall Hunter region locked? Yes. Your Steam store country determines which build you download, and your build limits you to its regional servers. Accounts registered in the US, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands receive the North American build and can only access North American servers, per the official FAQ.

Why can’t I select the North American server? If your store account is not registered in a North American territory, your client is the Global build and the game hides NA server nodes entirely. It is an account-entitlement restriction, not a ping or connection problem — even a very low ping to the US will not make the NA server appear.

Why is Mistfall Hunter region locked? Per the official FAQ, the North American build (issued to US, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and U.S. Virgin Islands store accounts) can only access North American servers, due to compliance requirements. Other builds are similarly tied to their regional servers.

Can I change regions to play with friends? Not through an official in-game option. Changing your Steam store country has strict requirements (physical presence, a local payment method, and a cooldown between changes), and community workarounds — including buying the separate “Mistfall Hunter (Not for US, CA, MX)” listing — are unverified, often fail, and character data does not transfer between build branches. The developer suggests opening a ticket on the official Discord for help.

Can a VPN bypass the region lock? Generally no. The restriction is tied to the store account’s entitlement, not your IP address, so rerouting your connection does not change which build you received. VPNs also carry risk because Mistfall Hunter uses kernel-level Bellring Anti-Cheat on PC, per the Steam store page.

Does crossplay help with region lock? No. Crossplay lets PC, PS5, and Xbox players matchmake together, but matchmaking is still region-bound. Two players on different regional builds cannot party up even on the same platform.

Does my progress carry over between regions? No. Character progress is tied to the server group where the character was created. If you switch to a different server group or build, your existing character and progression do not move with you.

Is region lock permanent? Unknown. The developers apologized and said they are looking for alternative solutions, but the NA-build restriction was still in effect at launch (July 2026). Watch official channels for changes.
