Builds & Playstyle
The Military Hammer is the first Rare-grade hammer, and the point where the Mercenary hammer line stops being filler. At 23 Attack it is the hammer you actually keep equipped through the early-to-midgame transition, and its 13% Equipment Rack drop makes it the most affordable serious upgrade in the family.
- Where it sits: the second rung of the hammer ladder (Combat Value 300) — above the Common Crude Hammer (CV 200), below the Magica Hammer (Excellent, CV 400).
- When to use it: the leveling-to-midgame stretch, whether you run the aggressive Hammer build or are still learning the class.
- When to swap: when an Excellent or better hammer drops from a raid — the Rare tier is the Mercenary’s comfort zone, not its ceiling.
Community note: the Mercenary is widely ranked the best beginner class in launch coverage (Destructoid and the launch tier lists, July 2026), and those same guides treat the Rare hammer as the standard first purchase; no list ranks individual hammers. That is community opinion, not an official ranking.
