Staves

Staves are the casting focus of the Sorcerer, the only class that wields them. Almost every Sorcerer spell is channeled through a Staff, from Elemental Magic (fire, ice, and thunder with elemental reactions) to Stardust Magic (celestial projectiles, gravitational effects, and wide-area bursts). Staff play rewards preparation: many spells must be chanted, so timing and positioning decide whether a Sorcerer dominates open ground or gets caught out at close range. Staves scale Magic Damage and are the class’s only weapon type at launch.

How to Choose a Staff

“Which staff” in Mistfall Hunter is really “which stage of Sorcerer progression you are in” — the Staff is the class’s only weapon at launch, so every staff on this page is a candidate at some point in the climb. The item database lays the ladder out in Combat Value, and the rarities track it step for step:

StaffRarityCombat ValueWhat it is for
Faded Apprentice StaffDamagedCV 100The worn starter — replace within a run or two
Apprentice StaffCommonCV 200The on-ramp — your first real casting weapon
Focus StaffExcellentCV 300First staff with a Magic Damage modifier
Convergence StaffRareCV 400The first “committed Sorcerer” staff
Empyrean Rain StaffEpicCV 500The mid-to-endgame workhorse
Blind Eye StaffLegendaryCV 600The endgame chase

The rarities and Combat Values come from the item pages below; everything else on this page is interpretation, not data. Three rules of thumb when you choose:

  • Chase the modifier, then the attack. The Focus Staff adds the first +Magic Damage%; every step above it raises both flat Attack and the percentage. Because Elemental and Stardust both scale off Magic Damage, the same upgrade path serves every Sorcerer build.
  • Farm for Holy, buy everything below. The Moon Deity staves are the only staffs with a documented drop source — the boss Sálmar, the Cursed Moonwane, 31.1% per the item database. The Common-to-Legendary line still lists acquisition as “not yet documented,” so treat the ladder below as a drop-and-salvage progression rather than a shopping checklist.
  • Bank a spare before you queue. Staffs are risk items: what you cannot extract, you lose. Community guides advise keeping a cheap staff in camp storage so a death in Brandrgarde never leaves your Sorcerer barehanded.

On pacing: the July 30, 2026 hotfix buffed the Sorcerer’s core casting skills (Fire Bolt, Thunderstrike, Stardust Tempest), which is one more reason the staff line is a straight progression — the class’s power lives in its skills, so staff upgrades mostly buy durability and a bigger damage multiplier rather than new playstyles.

A note on sources: launch-window guides (KeenGamer, GameSpot, Destructoid, July 2026) rank the Sorcerer, not its staffs — there is no community tier list for individual weapons, so any “best staff” claim is build-guide advice or database fact, never an official statement.

Blind Eye Staff
Weapons
LegendaryEquipmentThe Blind Eye Staff is a gnarled weapon used in Soul Experiments. After Sáldr took on the identity of the Prayer of the Moon, he kept this staff at his side at all times. Its bloodstains can never be washed away and radiate an unspeakable horror.

Empyrean Rain Staff
Weapons
EpicEquipmentAfter misfortune befell three High Priests, tension mounted within [Brandrgarde](/maps/brandrgarde). Sorcerers and priests, who were already at odds over the worship of the divine, began to clash frequently. "They claim to wield nature's power without kneeling before the gods. How absurd! Are not all powers in this world divine gifts?"
Focus Staff
Weapons
ExcellentEquipmentThe rounded head of this staff is crafted from brass. Brass is too soft for use in armor or weaponry, but it is ideal for inscribing runes. Offering decent magical conductivity at an affordable price, these brass-headed Focus Staves are the standard issue for [Brandrgarde](/maps/brandrgarde)'s Sorcerers.
Convergence Staff
Weapons
RareEquipmentSorcerers who wield this staff have usually come to grasp its essence, standing on the brink of their second awakening. Once their second "mind's eye" opens, they may wander off to take on apprentices and often end up leaving [Brandrgarde](/maps/brandrgarde). Unlike warriors chosen by clans, Sorcerers are mercenaries bound by no oaths, so they can depart once their contract ends. This loose arrangement, along with their irreverent attitude toward deities, breeds mistrust within Brandrgarde.
Apprentice Staff
Staff
CommonEquipmentA staff for novices, it has stood by as many apprentices cast their very first spells.
Faded Apprentice Staff
Staff
DamagedStaffFaded Apprentice Staff is a Damaged Staff in Mistfall Hunter, used by the Sorcerer.
